Background The Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical umbrella association co-owned by Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) and Malawi Council of Churches (MCC). CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi, it has 184 Health Facilities and 11 Training Colleges which are located in all parts of the country. CHAM health facilities are situated in remote and hard to reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide technical support, and develop health services among all its member facilities to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi. Therefore, CHAM wishes to fill the following vacant positions to be based in various CHAM health facilities across the country:
- Senior Medical Officers (7) – (Grade H): Applicants must have a minimum of MBBS or its equivalent from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Pharmacists (9) – (Grade I): Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or its equivalent from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Pharmacy & Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA).
- Clinical Officers (9) – (Grade I): Applicants must have a minimum of Degree in Clinical Medicine or its equivalent from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Nursing Officers (14) – (Grade I): Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery, Degree in Community Health Nursing, Degree in Mental Health Nursing or its equivalent from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Nurses Council.
- Pharmacy Technicians (7) – (Grade K): Applicants must have a minimum of a Diploma in Pharmacy from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Pharmacy & Medicines Regulatory Authority.
- Clinical Technicians (10) – (Grade K): Applicants must have a minimum of Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Radiography Technicians (9) – (Grade K): Applicants must have a minimum of a Diploma in Radiography from a well-recognised institution and fully registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Assistant Environmental Health Officer (4) – (Grade K): Applicants must have a minimum of a Diploma in Environmental Health or Public Health, fully registered by the Medical Council of Malawi.

Health Services Manager

CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi, with member facilities in remote and hard to reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide technical support, and develop health services among all its member facilities in order to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi. CHAM Secretariat wishes to recruit a qualified and suitable candidate for the position of Health Services Manager to be based in Lilongwe. HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER Job Grade: CM3 Department: Health Programmes Reports to: Director of Health Programmes Scope of work The Health Services Manager provides leadership in health services delivery by ensuring adherence to quality standards in CHAM health facilities and training colleges. Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Providing and coordinating quality assurance programmes in CHAM health facilities and training colleges.
- Coordinating accreditation of CHAM facilities to ensure that they meet the required standards.
- Mentoring and coaching CHAM facilities on quality health service standards.
- Facilitating the adoption and implementation of MOH Policies and guidelines in CHAM health facilities.
- Facilitating supportive supervision of CHAM health facilities and training college in liaison with the regulatory bodies such as Medical Council of Malawi, Nurses Council and Pharmacy and Medicines Poisons Authority etc.
- Conducting training of health management teams in effective leadership and management of CHAM health facilities and training colleges.
- Facilitating development of essential health care service package for church owned health facilities and ensure that these are accessible and available to the poorest of the poor.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Interested applicants should have a Master’s Degree from a well-recognised University in any of the following fields; Health Care management, Nursing Science, Clinical Medicine and Public Health, with a bias in Quality Management.
- Four years’ experience in managing quality assurance programmes in a health care setting.
- Experience in implementation and management of local and international health and development programmes funded by development partners.
Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Skills in management, staff supervision, leadership and networking.
- Knowledgeable of the health care services delivery and health management in resource poor settings.
- Good understanding of church based health care delivery.
- Self-starter and results oriented.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Team player and ability to work in a diverse group.
