VACANCY
The Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical association of Church-owned facilities in Malawi and the Secretariat is the central coordination unit of the Association. CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi with 194 Health Facilities and 11 Training Colleges which are located in all parts of the country. Most of the Health Facilities are situated in the remote and hard-to-reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide technical support, and develop health services among all member facilities in order to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi.
CHAM Secretariat invites applications for the position of Health Services Officer as follows:
Position: HEALTH SERVICES OFFICER
Grade: CM4
Department: Health Services
Purpose of the Position
To provide support in the provision of quality health services in CHAM Facilities and to mentor and monitor adherence of quality improvement standards in CHAM health facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating Quality Assurance in Clinical, Laboratory and Nursing Practices in CHAM health facilities.
- Facilitating the coaching and mentoring of facilities in Infection prevention, HIV/ART, Reproductive Health and other relevant MOH Policies and guidelines.
- Contributing to and supporting Health Services Department during the Secretariat’s proposal development.
- Liaising and coordinating with partners in the accreditation process of CHAM facilities to ensure that they meet health care standards.
- Supporting CHAM facilities in meeting minimum standards for professional bodies e.g. Medical and Nursing Councils and Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Malawi.
- Supporting the health services manager in activities to mobilise resources for effective delivery of health services in CHAM facilities including proposal and partnership development.
- Identifying areas of improvements and training needs in CHAM health facilities through periodic health service assessments.
- Assisting the Health Services Manager in coordinating the CHAM & MoH SLA Program.
- Supporting the Health Services Manager in setting up preventive maintenance programs for CHAM facilities as well as infrastructure development.
- Facilitating periodic HMIS/routine validation of data and audits.
- Conducting and supporting operational research on priority health problems to improve service delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Health Management, Clinical Medicine or Nursing.
- Those with a Degree in Health Management should have a qualification in Clinical Medicine or Nursing.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in implementing Quality Improvement Projects in health facilities.
Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Skills in facility supervision, leadership and networking
- Very good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Self-starter and results oriented
- Good team player with ability to work in a diverse group
- Well organized with proven ability to multi-task
